Orientation Policy

When prospective adult students present themselves for enrollment in your class, you are directed to instruct them to contact the closest central testing site administrator to schedule a testing session. After you receive a copy of their test results, you should contact the student and invite them to report to your classroom on the day and at the time that you have designated as your next monthly orientation session.

All prospective students must be assigned to the next orientation session, even if your class is currently full and you have a waiting list of students. No student should be placed on your waiting list until they have completed an orientation session.

The monthly orientation session will replace one of your regular class meetings and will begin and end at the same time as your regular class. Your regular class members may not be allowed to attend while you are conducting your monthly orientation session.

The monthly orientation session must be scheduled during the first full week of the calendar month.

The orientation session must be scheduled for a minimum of three (3) hours and should last for no more than the time allotted for one regular class session.

The orientation session must include the substantial completion of an enrollment form for each learner. The remainder of the orientation session should be designed as a sequence of group activities designed to make the student aware of the demanding nature of our course of instruction and of our high expectations for their successful completion. It is unlikely that time will be available during this session for individual student conferences. Individual student conferences should be scheduled for a convenient time during class within the first two weeks of the student's attendance.

Those portions of the enrollment form that require a discussion of confidential information must be delayed until a private conference is practical.

The class intake session must include a comprehensive group orientation. This orientation must include:

1. A discussion of each item in the AE Student Guide.
2. A discussion of your class rules, regulations and policies.
3. A thorough discussion of our expectations regarding class attendance and your policies regarding moving students from the waiting list to the active class roll.
4. A thorough discussion of what is expected of students who wish to hold on to their place on the active class roll.
5. A thorough discussion of our expectations regarding student behavior; before class, during class and after class.
6. Other information unique to your class situation.
