Compass Placement Testing
This is a required, computerized placement test for new students entering college for the first time or returning students who have not tested in the previous three years or later. The test is untimed and assesses abilities in English, reading, and mathematics. With this information, students and their advisors will be able increase chances for success by selecting appropriate classes.
It’s advisable to take all three parts at the same time. The test is not timed, but generally takes 1-1/2 to 2 hours for all three segments.
If you have ACT scores of 20 or higher in English, reading, or mathematics, you may be exempt from taking this part of the exam. Please make sure you bring a copy to the testing center when taking the test to be exempt.
Compass scores are valid for 3 years, but some programs may require current scores so check with the program you are interested in to get accurate information.
You may retest one time on each subject. After that, you must wait 3 years to test again. The cost for retest is $8.
