Community Education Classes

Spring Semester 2015

Central Alabama Community College offers numerous Community Education Courses for the benefit of those who would like to learn more about a particular skill or service.

No refunds will be given after attending the first class session.

Computers for Adults (Beginning)

 

January 12- February 23, Monday evenings, 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Class will not meet on January 19

Computer for Adults (Beginning) is designed for individuals who have little or no knowledge about personal computers. This six-week course will cover basic computing skills, including the Internet, Email, and basic Windows functions. Basic hardware, computer set-up and the do’s and don’ts of computers will also be included in the class. The class is located in room A-110. The instructor is Teresa Martin. The cost of the course is $60.

Computer for Adults (Intermediate)

March 9-April 20, Monday evenings, 6:00-7:30p.m.

Class will not meet on March 23

Intermediate computer for adults is the second class toward becoming for comfortable with a personal computer. Completion of the Beginning Computer for Adults course is highly recommended prior to taking this course. This 6 week course will be a continuation of the beginning courses, and will provide instruction in Microsoft Office, web-based applications, even a little social media! The class is located in room A-110. The instructor is Teresa Martin. The cost of the course is $60.

 

Introduction to Conversational Spanish

January 13- February 17, Tuesday evenings, 6:00 -7:30 p.m. ¿Habla Español¿ In this six-week course, beginners learn how to express what you want and need in the simplest and most effective way. Learn the expressions, character, and courtesies of the Spanish people. Build on your current Spanish vocabulary. Learn more expressions and effective ways to communicate with our Spanish friends. The class is located in room A-108. The class instructor is Alba Rivera-McEwen. The cost of the course is $60.00.

Conversational Spanish- Intermediate

March 3- April 13, Tuesday evenings, 6:00-7:30 p.m. Class will not meet on March 24 ¿Habla Español¿ Basic Spanish skills are required. In this six-week course, intermediate learners will express what you want and need in the simplest and most effective way. Learn the expressions, character, and courtesies of the Spanish people. Beginning Sign Language

January 15-February 19, Thursday evenings, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Class will not meet on March 26 This class is an introduction to basic sign language. Participants will learn the basics to the expressions and signs of American Sign Language. This six-week class will teach the basics of communicating with our hearing impaired friends. Classes will be held on at the Childersburg Campus in room A-108. The fee for the six-week class is $60.00. Textbooks are not required for this course. The class instructor is Sue Graham who is licensed by the State of Alabama to Interpret/Transliterate. No refunds will be given after attending the first class.

Intermediate Sign Language

March 5- April 16, Thursday evenings, 6:00-8:00 p.m. This is a class designed for participants with basic sign language skills. Participants will learn to expand their expressions and signs of American Sign Language. This six-week class will teach the intermediate skills of communicating with our hearing impaired friends. There are no required prerequisites. Classes will be held at the Childersburg Campus in room A-108. The fee for the six-week class is $60.00. Textbooks are not required for this course. The class instructor is Sue Graham who is licensed by the State of Alabama to Interpret/Transliterate. No refunds will be given after attending the first class.

Self Defense for Adults

January 15- February 5, Thursday evenings, 6:00-8:00 p.m. This 4 week course will teach adults (ages 18 and over) hands on training using self defense tactics. This course is being instructed by Sergeant Tony Tomlin of the Childersburg Police Department. Sergeant Tomlin is certified through a-post: self defense instructor. No refunds will be given after attending the first class. The cost of the course is $10.00. Registration must be in advance, first come first serve. Class will meet in the Lobby of Building A.

Self Defense for Adults

February 19- March 12, Thursday evenings, 6:00-8:00 p.m. This 4 week course will teach adults (ages 18 and over) hands on training using self defense tactics. This course is being instructed by Sergeant Tony Tomlin of the Childersburg Police Department. Sergeant Tomlin is certified through a-post: self defense instructor. No refunds will be given after attending the first class. The cost of the course is $10.00. Registration must be in advance, first come first serve. Class will meet in the Lobby of Building A.

STAINED GLASS

Stained Glass I - September 11th - October 30th, Thursday evenings, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
 
This class provides an introduction into learning the basics of stained glass providing participants with the history and fundamental skills needed to get started. No prerequisites are required other than the patience and strong desire to learn this wonderful art form. Participants will apply their new skills in the creation and completion of their own Sun Catcher project using the copper foil technique (NOTE: this is not a leaded glass/lead cane class.) Classes will be held at the former Career Technical Center. The instructor is Joe Harrison. The cost of the course is $85.00 with the separate materials and supplies fee of $20.00. These fees cover class instruction and basic class materials except for required safety glasses and any optional glass/materials a class participant may wish to incorporate into their project.  Participants must bring their own safety glasses to the first class session.


BEGINNER SEWING CLASS

Monday evenings, 6:00 – 7:15 p.m. beginning September 8, 2014

In this 6- week course you will learn the basics of using a sewing machine, fabric selection and laying and cutting a pattern.  Classes will be held in the HEA Building Lobby.  The fee for this course is $115.  Sewing machines, fabric and sewing supplies will be provided.
