Pell Grant Calculation Examples

A student’s FAFSA EFC is 0.  His Maximum Academic Year Award will be $5,645.  If the student enrolls for 12 hours or more (full-time) for the Fall Semester, his Pell Grant award will be $2,823 for the Fall Semester.  The same student enrolls for 12 hours or more (full-time) for the Spring Semester.  His Pell Grant award will be $2,823.  If this student enrolls for the Summer Term, he will have no Pell Grant funds available because he would have received his Maximum Academic Year Award over the Fall and Spring Semesters, i.e.  $5,645 (Max Award) - $2,823 (Fall Pell) - $2,823 (Spring Pell) = $ 0 (Available for Summer)

A student’s FAFSA EFC is 0.  His Maximum Academic Year Award will be $5,645.  If the student enrolls for 12 hours or more (full-time) for the Fall Semester, his Pell Grant award will be $2,823 for the Fall Semester.  The same student enrolls for 9 – 11 hours (3/4 time) for the Spring Semester.  His Pell Grant award will be $2,117.  If this student enrolls for the Summer Term, he will have $705 available to apply to his Summer enrollment charges.   NOTE: The maximum available for Summer will be $705 regardless of the number of enrolled hours, i.e.  ($5,645 (Max Award) - $2,823 (Fall Pell) - $2,117 (Spring Pell) = $ 705 (Available for Summer)

A student’s FAFSA EFC is 450.  His Maximum Academic Year Award will be $5,195.  If the student enrolls for 12 hours or more (full-time) for the Fall Semester, his Pell Grant award will be $2,598 for the Fall Semester.  The same student enrolls for 6 - 8 hours (1/2 time) for the Spring Semester.  His Pell Grant award will be $1,299.  If this student enrolls for the Summer Term, he will have $1,298 available to apply to his Summer enrollment charges if he enrolls for 6 or more semester hours.  NOTE:  If he decides to only register for 1 – 5 semester hours (less than 1/2 time) for the Summer, his Pell award will be reduced to $650.

***Exception:   Calculations for clock hour conversions programs are paid federal aid based on clock hours – not academic credit hours.  LPN is a clock hour conversion program.  Students who have been admitted to the LPN program should refer to the Clock-Hour Conversion Table.
