POSITION TITLE: DIVISION CHAIRPERSON FOR TRANSITIONAL (Developmental) STUDIES

 

REPORTS TO: PROVOST/DEAN OF INSTRUCTION

                                    ASSOCIATE DEAN OF INSTRUCTION

 

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the campus Provost, division chairs provide leadership in the transitional studies department for regular day programs, evening divisions, and off-campus programs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

·         Orients new adjunct faculty members to the College and to their specific responsibilities.

·         Employs, orients, and evaluates adjunct faculty members.

·         Uses results of evaluation to improve delivery of transitional (developmental) education courses.

·         Works with transitional (developmental) faculty on both campuses.

·         Orders textbooks (supplies) for adjunct faculty.

·         Researches best practices for teaching transitional courses and trains instructors as needed.

·         Assists with the planning, budgeting, and expenditure of funds allocated for the division.

·         Develops a proposed divisional class schedule.

·         Assists with preparation of catalog for divisional offerings and regulations.

·         Develops new programs and courses appropriate to the division when needed.

·         Conducts program reviews within the disciplines in the respective division.

·         Coordinates training for transitional (developmental) faculty.

·         Publishes a Transitional Education Handbook and updates as necessary with the changes in programs.

·         Publishes a list of professional development opportunities for transitional (developmental) opportunities annually.

·         Provides leadership to the division in setting long range and short term goals.

·         Performs other duties related to job.

·         Serves on college committees.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree with 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours in field from a regionally accredited institution.

                                    Three years employment with CACC as an instructor.

                                    Excellent communication skills -- oral and written

                                    Active participation in professional and community organizations.
