Attendees discussed a vision for the developmental education program. Ideas included the following:
State of the art developmental education program for returning students
Improved success rate for developmental students
Enhance the quality of student life
Enrich the classroom
College-wide impact
Enhance the education program

After some discussion, the following vision statement was developed for developmental/transitional education: The vision of transitional education at CACC is to improve the college-wide learning experience by enhancing success opportunities for underprepared students.

The term “transitional education” was used, but members discussed the language problem. The term “transitional” is more appealing to students, but the word “developmental” is used in all course descriptions as required by State Board policy. No ideal solution has been reached.

The following vision statement was developed for the QEP: CACC will collectively design and implement a process to enhance student learning.

Goals statements will be developed by subcommittees. Goals statements to be used in one or both lists include the following:
· Create a centralized transitional education division
· Test incoming students to determing learning styles and place students accordingly
· Develop a monthly newsletter to disseminate information to the college at large
· Provide learning styles training for college personnel
· Establish an appropriate budget
· Provide learning styles training for students
· Incorporate various success initiatives
· Enhance College facilities to create areas devoted to student success
