Police Chief's Message

Campus policing in the 21st century requires a broader, more engaged approach than ever before. Today’s college and university police departments must work closely with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to address complex challenges that extend beyond traditional law enforcement. Higher education institutions are increasingly called upon to confront issues such as race, substance abuse, mental health crises, and the prevention of mass violence—all of which have intensified in recent years and demand thoughtful, proactive responses.
Upon my appointment as Chief of Police, I identified five focus areas essential to building and sustaining an effective campus police department:
- Reducing crime
- Enhancing campus safety and security
- Investing in professional development
- Advancing technology and equipment
- Strengthening partnerships across the campus and surrounding community
These priorities guide our mission to provide a safe, supportive learning environment while fostering trust, accountability, and collaboration throughout the campus community.
