Central Alabama Community College Announces Hiring of Julianne Wilkes-Mathews as Head Volleyball Coach

Prattville, AL — Central Alabama Community College (CACC) is proud to announce the hiring of Julianne Wilkes-Mathews as the inaugural head coach of its new women’s volleyball program, set to begin competition in Fall 2026. The program will be based at CACC’s Prattville campus and marks an exciting expansion of the college’s athletic offerings.

Wilkes-Mathews brings passion, vision, and a strong connection to the community as she takes the helm of this new program in her hometown. She will be responsible for building the volleyball program from the ground up, including recruiting, player development, and establishing a competitive presence in junior college athletics.

“I am extremely thankful to President Lynn, Michael Barnette, Brandy Mitchell, Stephanie Fulmer, Jeffery Daniels and the entire selection committee for choosing me to lead this new program,” said Wilkes-Mathews. “Starting a volleyball program in my hometown is truly a full-circle moment. I’m incredibly honored and grateful to be selected for this opportunity, and excited to build something special in a community that means so much to me.”

Wilkes-Mathews emphasized the broader impact of launching a volleyball program at CACC.

“Having a community college volleyball program in such a strong, supportive community means more than just building a team—it’s about creating real opportunities,” she said. “We’re opening doors for local talent to compete at a high level while earning their associate degrees, setting them up for success both on and off the court. I’m excited for the journey ahead and all the new adventures this brings.”

CACC President Jeff Lynn highlighted the significance of the hire and the continued growth of Trojan athletics.

“We are thrilled to welcome Julianne Wilkes-Mathews to Central Alabama Community College as the leader of our new volleyball program,” said Lynn. “The addition of volleyball, along with our continued expansion of our athletic program, creates more opportunities for local student-athletes to pursue their academic and athletic goals close to home. This is an exciting step forward for our institution and the communities we serve.”

Director of Athletics Jeff Daniels also expressed enthusiasm about the program’s future.

“With the introduction of volleyball in Fall 2026, Central Alabama Community College continues its commitment to providing competitive athletic opportunities alongside academic excellence, while strengthening its connection to our surrounding communities . Coach Wilkes -Mathews will bring a high level of energy and excitement to our program.”

The addition of women’s volleyball expands CACC’s growing athletics program. Currently, the college sponsors softball, baseball, and golf teams that compete from the Alexander City campus, as well as men’s and women’s tennis teams based in Prattville.

Looking ahead, CACC is also planning to launch additional sports, including women’s flag football and men’s and women’s cross country, further enhancing opportunities for student-athletes academic and arhletic development.
