Central Alabama Community College (CACC) Adult Education has launched a new initiative in partnership with the Elmore County Juvenile Court and the Elmore County Family Resource Center. The program, called Setbacks to Scholarships, is designed to provide justice-involved youth with the opportunity to continue their education and prepare for the workforce.
Through this partnership, students will have access to GED preparation, High School Diploma Options (HSDO), digital literacy instruction, and job readiness training. The program focuses on helping young people overcome past challenges while gaining the tools to succeed in school, employment, and life.
“This partnership is about hope and accountability,” said District Judge Ben Baxley of the 19th Judicial Circuit. “We are not just offering a second chance. We are creating a path forward for young people who need support, structure, and the belief that they can build something better. That benefits every one of us.”
CACC instructors will provide instruction on-site at the Elmore County Family Resource Center. The center will also support family engagement and outreach. The Juvenile Court will work alongside educators to monitor progress and provide guidance throughout the program.
“This is the heart of our mission,” said CACC President Jeff Lynn. “We believe education should be accessible, practical, and life-changing. Through this partnership, we are helping students take that next step with purpose and support.”
A formal signing ceremony and kickoff event will take place on Tuesday, August 26, at 9 AM.
