CACC Student Jenna Hurley Paves the Way Through Accessibility and Determination

Alexander City, AL — Jenna Hurley, a determined student who is visually impaired, is proving that passion, resilience, and the right support can open doors to higher education. Through a partnership between Central Alabama Community College and the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind’s E.H. Gentry facility, Jenna has earned an associate degree in computer information systems.

The partnership between CACC and AIDB’s E.H. Gentry facility—a full-service vocational and educational rehabilitation program—has been central to her success. Designed to empower students with sensory differences, the collaboration focuses on employment training and lifelong success. CACC’s team has further supported Jenna’s academic journey, enabling course accessibility and assistive technology on campus.

“CACC and Gentry just really opened up my mind to what is possible in the world,” stated Jenna. “At CACC, I’ve learned that I can expand my education no matter my disability.”

Jenna is highly skilled with screen readers and other assistive tools. She mentors peers who are visually impaired, offers technical guidance, and assists with campus navigation. Jenna is especially grateful to CACC Associate Director of Student Success Leslie Mitchell, whose dedication has helped ensure success for students with disabilities.

On Wednesday August 12, Central Alabama Community College President Jeff Lynn recognized Jenna for her determination and positive impact at CACC.

“I am incredibly proud of Jenna’s achievements and the lasting impact she has made on our campus community,” noted President Lynn. “She exemplifies the determination and spirit that make CACC a place where every student can thrive.”

Looking ahead, Jenna plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer science through an online university and continue building expertise through technology certifications. Jenna Hurley is not only shaping her own future—she is paving the way for generations of students to come.
