Michael Barnette, Dean of Workforce and Economic Development at Central Alabama Community College, was installed this morning to the Board of Directors for the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce during the Chamber’s Annual Member Breakfast.
Barnette was joined at the event by members of the CACC workforce team, who attended to show their support and celebrate the milestone alongside local business and community leaders.
In his role at CACC, Barnette oversees workforce training and economic development initiatives that connect students with employers across the region. His work focuses on helping businesses find skilled talent while creating clear, practical pathways for students to enter and advance in the workforce. Those efforts often involve direct collaboration with local industries, employers, and community partners to ensure training aligns with real-world needs.
Barnette’s service on the Chamber’s board places him in a working group of business and civic leaders who are addressing workforce challenges, economic growth, and long-term planning for the Sylacauga area. His perspective brings both the employer and student perspectives into the conversation.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Chamber’s board,” Barnette said. “Sylacauga has a strong base of employers who care about their workforce, and there’s a real opportunity to connect that demand with people who want to build careers right here. I’m looking forward to contributing in a practical way.”
CACC’s workforce team regularly partners with chambers of commerce, employers, and community organizations to develop training programs, credentials, and short-term certifications that respond to regional needs. Barnette’s involvement with the Sylacauga Chamber adds another avenue for collaboration as those efforts continue.
