Who can take the GED?

The eligibility requirements for GED testing include:

  • Not graduated from an accredited high school or received a high school equivalency certificate or diploma.
  • Not enrolled in a regular high school.
  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • If you are under 18, you must obtain an Approval to Test from the last high school attended (Exit Interview Form) or letter from the home schooled district in order to take GED test. A notarized letter from either parent stating they give permission for you to take the test must also be turned in.

You may want to consider getting ready for the tests by taking some preparatory GED classes such as those offered at Central Alabama Community College.
