Central Alabama Community College to Host In-Person Commencement and Pinning Ceremonies

Central Alabama Community College is proud to announce that it will host in-person commencement ceremonies this semester. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 commencement was cancelled and a virtual ceremony was held via YouTube and Facebook.

“We are very excited to give our students an opportunity to participate in, in-person graduation ceremonies,” Jeff Lynn, president of CACC stated.

“The Coosa Valley School of Nursing will also be conducting their Pinning ceremony for the nursing graduates.”

“This past year has been difficult and challenging for everyone. Our students are always priority number one here at CACC. With vaccines now available and with the number of Covid-19 cases on the decline, we felt that it would be safe to offer in-person ceremonies to our students with certain protocols and restrictions in place to ensure the safety of everyone involved.”

Due to social distancing for events, the commencement exercises will be for graduating students only. Though families are welcome on campus, there will only be room for the graduates in the ceremonies. Faculty will be in attendance outside so that they may congratulate the students after each ceremony.

There will be two ceremonies from which students may choose to participate. Commencement ceremonies will be on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the Betty Carol Graham Technology Center on the Alexander City campus. The Nursing Pinning ceremony will be at 1:00 p.m.

Students eligible to participate include:

  • Those who completed degree or certificate requirements by the end of summer 2020 or fall 2020.
  • Those who plan to graduate in the spring semester of 2021
  • Those within 9 hours of graduating in summer 2021

Students who need to request, under the Americans with Disabilities Act, reasonable accommodations for the graduation ceremony, please contact Leslie Mitchell, Student Services Specialist/ADA Coordinator on the Childersburg Campus at 256-378-2003 or lmitchell@cacc.edu prior to May 1, 2021.

CACC will continue to adhere to all protocols and mandates set forth by the state of Alabama regarding Covid-19, and will adjust any planned events accordingly.
